M54 between Telford and Wolverhampton to close for eight weekends - BBC News

A two-month series of weekend closures for motorway maintenance work is set to begin at the end of February.

National Highways will carry out concrete repairs on the M54 between junctions two and four to ensure smoother and safer journeys for road users.

The work will take place on both sides of the carriageway, although only one side will be closed at a time, with closures running from 20:00 on Fridays until 06:00 on Mondays.

Drivers will be diverted on to the A5 Watling Street, A449 Stafford Road, A41 Newport Road and Castle Farm Way.

The road will also be closed overnight between the junctions on the Thursdays prior to the maintenance to allow traffic management to be put in place.

National Highways project manager Dan Bothwick said: "We have planned full weekend closures to enable us to carry out our work safely and allow the concrete to set to the required strength."

He added that the work had been planned in a way that would reduce the impact on drivers as traffic flows were lower at the weekend and only one direction of the motorway would be closed at a time.
